Personally Identifiable Information is any data that can identify a specific person, directly or in combination with other data. Names, emails and phone numbers are obvious. Less obvious: an IP address in a server log, a license plate in a parking photo, an internal user ID alongside a timestamp. 1. On-device OCR
BlurData uses native macOS Vision APIs to extract text from screenshots and PDFs. No cloud OCR service, no API key, no telemetry.
2. Pattern + NLP matching
Detected text is passed through a combination of regex patterns (emails, IPs, phones, IBANs…) and macOS Natural Language tagging (names, organizations). You see results in under a second.
3. Reversible review, irreversible export
Toggle categories or individual matches before export. Once exported, the redaction is rasterized into the image or removed from the PDF text layer — there is no hidden original.
